Good Morning and Happy Independence Day!
These courteous remarks greeted the cool and fabulous morning weather here in the Philippine Center Building in San Francisco. On June 12, 2005 - 8:00 Pacific Time, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco's Flag Raising signaled the start of celebration of the 107th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

 |
| A simple, yet traditional ceremony highlighted the event by the raising of a giant Philippine Flag at the rooftop
and penthouse floor of the eight storey building of the Philippine
Government in Sutter Street. The Honorable Consul General Maria
Rowena Mendoza Sanchez, Deputy Consul General Leoncio Cardenas,
Consul Anthony Mandap, Commercial Attaché Ma. Roseni Alvero,
Tourism Director Rene del los Santos and Philippine Center Business
and General Manager Ricardo Sison led the hoisting of the Philippine
Flag as others proudly stood by singing the Philippine National
Anthem. Tourists and locals in the large, neighboring hotels
surrounding the historical building, paused for a while and
paid similar respects to the Philippine Flag while some took
souvenir photos from their hotel room windows. |

| The very symbolic ceremony set the stage for the weeklong celebration of Independence Day in the Bay Area and the Peninsula. Immediately after the flag raising a mass was held in the newly renovated Consulate Lobby. Career officers and former consular staff visiting and residing in San Francisco witnessed the ribbon cutting ceremony. |

|
| Just last night for the first time ever, the Filipino Community of the San Francisco Bay Area celebrated Independence Day at the USS Hornet Museum in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General of San Francisco. |
|
| On Monday, June 13, 2005 a similar flag raising ceremony for the entire San Francisco Community was held at the SF City Hall. In the evening of the same day a reception to celebrate the 107th Anniversary of Philippine Independence Day was held at the Green Room of the War Memorial Building in Van Ness SF. |
